Conference Objectives:

  • Identify the at-risk use of substances in older adults.
  • Understand how they can help facilitate and deliver treatment for older adults who have addiction problems.
  • Improve their own skills in treatment delivery. Identify age-related vulnerabilities and risks regarding the use of alcohol in later life. 
  • Identify the causes and scope of the opioid addiction and overdose epidemic in Maryland and recognize and respond to an opiod overdose with naloxone. 
  • Recognize polypharmacy, misuse, and abuse of prescription medications. 
  • Develop an appropriate plan to promote safe medication use. Identify two specific cohorts within the senior population that may present with different substance abuse issues. 
  • Obtain an understanding of Integrated Care in treating older adults with substance abuse issues.
